The International Tax Credit (TRIP) applies to foreign-initiated films and TV series made wholly or partly in France. In particular, it is aimed at productions that carry out only their shooting, special effects or post-production work in France. Eligible works are cinematographic or audiovisual, fiction or animation. The tax credit is paid to the French-based company responsible for executive production.
It represents 30% of certain film expenses incurred in France, up to a maximum of €30 million. A bonus rate of 40% on all eligible costs is applicable to works of fiction with strong visual effects whose French expenditure on the digital production of visual effects exceeds €2,000,000. Works of fiction with strong visual effects are defined as live-action works in which at least 15% of the shots, i.e. an average of one and a half shots per minute, are digitally processed.
